Reflection in a Glass Door at the Grocery Store

Reflection in a Glass Door at the Grocery Store

by Nancy Chen Long

I see her and I

wonder do I look like that? moon

face, drooped stern with laugh

lines. Uneasiness oozes. In

my mind, I am instead,

that other woman, the one in still life,

dress cinched at the waist,

hair waxen like onyx tumbling across her clavicle.

Face square to the camera,

her gaze does not cower.

-refers to the words “face” and “cower” in Val Dering Rojas’ poem Breakfast, 7 am
